This is my favorite Stephen Gammel piece. Reminds me of 'Them Bones' by Chains, but of course it clearly has more to do folk music.

Oh Man, thank you! Growing up, these books were the one's to read if you wanted nightmares. You could not help but hesitate when reading them because you didn't know what nightmarish illustration a waited your eye's to graze over it. Too bad they were redone and watered down with new illustration's that just don't have the same scare factor of Stephen Gammel.

I love Stephen Gammel's Art .. Its So Other worldly , ghostly , and just like reminds me of another world like another dimension like ours but where the impossible weird happens .. and yet reminds me of CreepShow, Tales from The Crypt or Tales from The Darkside ... Its where Stephen Gammel's Illustrations and Alvin Schwartz's combination conjoined has taken me back too .

lovely! Looks like something he would do. I've tried that style myself (see them in my gallery if interested) and it's not an easy thing to capture - Gammel has such a unique...feeling to the illustrations he creates. Again great job!

Superb rendition...tell me, do you ever feel like you'll create a Gammel-style picture of your own? I'd be looking forward to seeing it and getting scared by it all over again :)

OMGEEEE! I remember when I first saw this illustration as a kid. I was scarred for life. You've done a wonderful job of replicating the atmospheric, eerie style of Stephen Gammell. YAY!

LOL I love that urban legend.

Excellently done. And in acrylics no less. I've always found oils easier, so I am usually very impressed when a good painting has been done in acrylics.

nice job

I used to have scary stories one and three if I remember correctly. The illustrations were among the most creepy things I have ever seen.
